School Transition 2026!

When your child joins our pre school group, we will invite you in for a group parent session where we share all the information you need to know about applying for your child’s school place and all that we have on offer to support your child throughout their pre school year so they are ready for their exciting adventures ahead.

We support children to be ready for transition throughout the year, without them knowing it! Through stories, play, new experiences, going on trips and inviting professionals in for workshops, and so much more. In the Summer Term the next step is when we start inviting local school teachers to meet the children who will be joining their school. Please see a small gallery below of this years visits. Look how excited, happy and engaged those children are! After these visits children are then invited to stay and play sessions at schools and lots of schools also offer home visits too.

Every year we work closely with local schools to create transition plans that suit the individual needs of every child. For some children they are moving to school as part of a small group of friends from nursery, others may be starting at a school further afield as an individual, or joining an older siblings school. No matter whether the child is the only one joining the school or going with a group of friends, we work just as hard on their transition plans.

For children with any additional support we arrange joint meeting with nursery staff, the school team and families to talk in more detail about supporting the child to thrive at school. We can also accompany children and families on after school visits to the school when the classroom is empty for children who benefit from a quieter environment to explore as an additional step in their transition. During these trips we often create personalised photo stories for children to look at afterwards as another positive part of their transition. These photo stories show things such as where they will hang their coat, where they will play, staff at the school, where they will eat lunch, go out to play, what their uniform will look like etc.

Another very exciting step in our transition happens in the Autumn Term when Newlyn School invite our Pre School group to visit their forest school! They pick the children up on their school minibus and we accompany them for a morning exploring the forest school and then finishing with a delicious hot lunch in the school canteen! We’ve run this trip for 3 years so far and it’s been a brilliant positive experience of a school for children to build on, we’d like to say an enormous thank you to Newlyn School!

Every year we have wonderful feedback about how the children have settled in September and how well prepared they are in terms on independence, self care, confidence, perseverance, curiosity and so much more alongside their academic readiness for all the new play and learning experiences.

Sennen School!

Mrs Baker has a wonderful time in the duck garden meeting the ducks, playing on the slides and in the mud kitchen!

Newlyn School

Mr Budgen spent his transition session in the duck garden where he read stories to the children, played in the wooden castles and explored the mud kitchen! The children also looked at their new school uniform together!

St Mary’s Catholic School

Mrs Correnti visited us from St Mary’s Catholic School and had a wonderful time in the duck garden. The child was beaming in their new school cardigan! They zoomed around the duck garden together, being given a tour of everything the child loves playing with! The children then worked as a team to roll the big pole over to search for minibeasts underneath!

Alverton School

Mrs Daylak’s visit centered around the children’s interest in minibeasts! The children showed her all the best places to find lots of exciting minibeasts in the garden!

Over recent years we have also had successful transitions with the following schools (to name just a few in our local area!)
