We are very fortunate to have an enormous collection of books so we have created a dedicated space for children of all ages to share these stories together; introducing our very own library. Just 24 hours after ‘opening the doors’ and it’s a HUGE hit with the children and an absolute joy to see them exploring the books together, cuddled up with a teddy on the cushions.
We also some collections of books that are on the higher up shelves to be kept as special adult led stories, to add a little extra magic and even more excitement to storytelling times! All the other books are fully accessible to children to enjoy. We also have our tonie box that the children are already familiar with how to control so they can pop an audio book on to enjoy, and we have a large collection of classical music cds that we can play in the background.
Our library space has created a real heart to our nursery and our curriculum which already centres around developing children’s love of books. Each half term each room already explores a topic book in depth alongside all the other provision available for children which was highly praised by Ofsted and we see the children enjoying it day by day. Alongside each of these topic books we have created collections of matching books that are kept in our upstairs resources room (for example a wealth of books about food, the moon, numbers and minibeasts to go alongside The Hungry Caterpillar topic book). This means we have even more new books on offer each half term! These collections will be on offer in their rooms as well as having access to the library creating a wealth of books for the children to explore.
We are also in the process of setting up a system so that children can choose books to take home and explore and return to us, just like a real library.

The library is a quiet space but we can use very exciting voices when telling stories! (It’s great fun to be a loud giant, a growling lion or a squeaky mouse!)
Here are our adult led stories, we have a large Julia Donaldson collection, a wide range of dual language books (with a matching pen that reads them in differing languages) and a selection of our favourite stories to share with the children. The children also have free access to hundreds of books stored at child height!
Our Library is at the heart of the nursery so that all the children can easily access it.
There are hundreds of books to choose from!
We can listen to an audio book, a classical cd or choose a book. Plus we have a range of story baskets with props and puppets that we will rotate for the children to explore and enjoy. At the moment we have The Gruffalo story basket, The Smartest Giant in Town, Angelina Ballerina and Mrs Honey’s Hat!
