Have you ever held a 12 day old chick?

There is something quite magical about meeting baby animals.

Two years ago were very lucky to provide the children with the experience of caring for our duck eggs right through to hatching the ducklings and rearing them to adult ducks who we still care for today. Our older children remember this experience clearly and fondly. Our younger children love caring for the ducks but they didn’t meet them as eggs or ducklings!

We are incredibly lucky that Elizabeth rears and cares for chickens at home and kindly brings her chicks in each year for the children to have the expereince of meeting them. The children have so many wonderful questions to ask Elizabeth such as ‘What do they eat?’ ‘How big will they grow?’ ‘where do they live?’ and comments such as ‘we have to be gentle’ ‘their feathers are so soft’ ‘I like the cheeping noise they make’. You can see from the children’s faces just how besotted they were with the chicks! We were incredibly impressed with how gentle and caring the children were, as always.
