Our Adventure to St Michael’s Mount

Our adventure started with a walk to Penzance Bus Station where we caught the number 2 bus to Marazion. For two of the children this was their FIRST time on a bus – what an exciting treat!

We all said thank you to the bus driver and then walked across the beach towards the Causeway, finding LOTS of exciting beach treasure along the way. Our tummies were rumbling so we stopped for our first snack on the beach. The children were very excited to see the island! One of them asked if the Queen was home today!

When we arrived on the island we had a very important job to do! We were given a bag of ‘lost’ items that we needed to return to people who worked on the island. This meant we needed to find a Barista in the Cafe to return their milk jug, a shop keeper to return the ticket pricing machine, a guide to return the ticket counter and Mik in the Change House had lost his binoculars to keep an eye on the causeway and boats! The children got straight to work finding their way around the island looking for everyone.

As we explored the island we saw lots of people busy driving machinery around, they are in the midst of cleaning up from the aftermath of Storm Gorreti. Lots of the wood is being used locally for some fantastic projects.

In the Barge House we discovered the Bronze scultpure of St Michael’s Mount, the children amazed us by being able to identify where the causeway was that we walked over AND where the bowling lawn was which is where we ate snack and even the cafe and barge house itself! Incredible observations skills and thinking everyone. Well done! The sculpture is made to be tactile so the children were able to explore it with their hands too.

The children liked looking out of the window to enjoy the view of the harbour where the boats were moared up, we also saw a boat being driven across to the island on a trailer too.

We then left the island by the causeway and caught a bus from Marazion square to Penzance bus station. We waited for another bus to take us up to the college where it’s a short (flat!) walk past the doctors surgery and hockey club back to nursery.

The children were incredible throughout the trip! We hope they have lots of stories to tell you about their adventures and we can’t wait for the next trip in a few weeks!
