We offer quality learning experiences for children.
Have you been the The Gardener’s House in Morrab Gardens? IT’S AMAZING! Sam and I met Daisy from Gardener’s House this morning and had a tour of their incredible building and facilities. Subsequently we have planned a series of sessions for some of our Pre School and Early 3’s children to enjoy over the coming year. Daisy is full of enthusiasm for engaging families and children with the natural world around them and exploring nature through fascinating art and crafts projects. We learnt about jelly printing, oak gall ink painting, mushroom printing and so much more today! Her knowledge of flora and fauna in amazing and she has a real passion for sparking curiosity in children about the world around them. The building has so many beautiful spaces to enjoy activities, books and the sensory garden is wonderful, we particularly loved their curiosity wall outside. We highly recommend popping down if you haven’t before! Opening times are in the photos below. We’ll keep you all updated as our partnership with them flourishes. (from Kate)
The sensory garden is full of herbs and plants, planted at child height for them to explore. They are encouraged to touch the textures of the plants, smell them and compare the differences. Children are encouraged not to ‘pick’ the plants unless they have already fallen on the floor, they are very much encouraged to touch and explore them fully though. The garden workshop has a skateboarding exhibition in it at the moment with some amazing artwork from local children. The space has sliding glass doors with views of the sensory garden and a partially covered patio area with the curiosity wall outside. We will be spending a lot of our time in this wonderful space with indoor cover and instant access to the outside world around us too.
We LOVE the curiosity wall. We WILL be creating our own versions of these, hopefully one indoors and one outdoors at our nursery. The wall creates spaces for children to exhibit found items. There are shelves for items to sit on, space for photos, postcards and drawings to be displayed, perspex boxes to show items from all angles and chalkboards to write questions, observations and comments. We loved exploring all of the seaweed, stones and clay artwork currently on display. We look forward to seeing how the curiosity wall evolves each time we visit and adding our own items of curiosity.
There are so many areas to explore within the building! On the ground floor there is The Crib Room and The Lab, as well as a loo and reception area (with lots of beautiful items for sale) The area set up for workshops and activities was incredibly calming, light, airy and just somewhere you wanted to spend a lot of time.
On the first floor there is a mezzanine area, another loo, Study Room and Archive Room (We really wanted to delve more in here! The archive room is currently being processed for more exploration and is available to view by appointment at the moment) There are SO many exciting adult and children books to explore in this area with beautiful seating. (No photos as there were people working in this space today)
There was some incredible art work on display. We can’t wait to find out more about Jelly Printing in particular – there were 3 huge prints that were all from the same jelly print with natural materials (I only snapped two of them!) – we are INTRIGUED!
Keep an eye on The Gardener’s House website and social media for more information about visiting and upcoming workshops.
