Promoting healthy oral hygiene.

  • Did you know it’s vital that parents brush their children’s teeth until they are 7 years old?

It’s also important for children to explore brushing their own teeth too, to develop important skills and enjoyment in this part of our daily routine.

We are promoting a love of toothbrushing to help children feel confident and proud of brushing their teeth. In Pre School and Early 3’s we are talking about why we brush our teeth, how long for and looking at similarities and differences between all our toothbrushes!

Lots of our families have sent in photographs of their toothbrushes and of them helping to brush their teeth at home. Look at all these different toothbrushes! The photos have sparked lots of great conversation. We love the idea one family had of putting a sticker on the handle of their brush to make it more exciting for their child. Another family have a toothbrush that lights up different coloured buttons – it flashes a green to brush the bottom teeth, orange to brush the top teeth and red to brush your tongue. Another toothbrush lights up for 2 minutes. Another has a light up party mode! Some children are using children’s electric toothbrushes. Some children have timers. There are so many variations to choose from. We recommend speaking to you dentist about the best toothbrush for your child.

The NHS provide a great instructional video for helping brush your child’s teeth:
