We offer quality learning experiences for children.
We had such fun welcoming Katie and Jo to nursery for the final workshop in this set of 3 for our Pre School Children. As always Katie and Jo had the children’s full focus and attention. The children absolutely WOW’d us all with their incredibly detailed recall of the previous workshops, which is even more impressive considering the gap between the visit to the museum and this workshop!
Katie and Jo then gave the children clues to help them remember the old and new items we’d previously explored and the children knew what they were instantly and were talking about them in even more detail, adding the materials that they were made out of for example. All of the children particularly love the ‘Granny Grace’ painting and enthusiastically remembered all about how she didn’t have any electricity and used candles and ceramic hot water bottles. They showed brilliant observational skills when looking at new paintings, for example spotting St Mary’s church from different angles in 3 different paintings, spotting similarities and differences in clothing and suchlike.
The children got stuck in to their crafting activity, creating individual golden collage picture frames, they were talking about the different shapes, spotting semi circles and lots of other shapes! They then worked together to create group collage frames too! After this the children looked at an old painting of school children and had opportunity to dress up in Victorian style clothing. Some of the children jumped at this chance and others enjoyed looking through the items in the dressing up box.
We finished the session by giggling our way through a Silly Museum book which the children adored! It completely grasped their interest!
We would like to express an ENORMOUS thank you to Katie and Jo for sharing their passion and enthusiasm with the children! We cannot wait to see you soon when we next visit the museum and to welcome you back for these workshops again next year!
