Baby Sensory Play at Nursery

Emma and Elizabeth plan and provide a huge variety of sensory experiences for the children each day.

We love tummy time! Looking at our reflection in the mirror and reaching for exciting objects to explore.

Sensory trays allow our babies to explore items with all their senses, they can also try and fit items inside others and look for items when they go through tunnels or under scarves.

We can explore what happens when we pick up toys, do they make a noise when we shake them? Do they feel soft, fluffy, bumpy, hard?

We love playing peek a boo under sscarves and also hiding and finding toys under them!

Musical instruments are so much fun! We can feel the different materials as we pick them up, are they wooden, metal, plastic? Do they make a noise when we shake them or roll them?

Bubbles! We love watching bubbles, focusing our gaze on them as they move around, and we love reaching out to try and catch or pop them!

Our light up toys create both a calming and stimulating environment. The children love picking them up and some of the items change colour as they tip and roll them over, catching the children’s attention as the lights change as they turn them over. Our older children can also manipulate the items to stack them or find the buttons to change the colour.

Sometimes we explore edible materials, these are great for squashing, crunching, scooping and pouring too!

Tummy time is graet fun as well as brilliant for our physical development, strengthening so many muscles ready for crawling and developing our control and coordination.

Cloud dough has a very unique texture, we love exploring it with our hands!

Gloop! Just mixing cornflour and water creates gloop – another wonderfulyl unique texture to explore, you can pick it up and it will drip and pour, or you can roll it into a ball in your hands and crumble it up too!

It’s also great fun trying to pull objects out of gloop as it can be quite sticky! Very satisfying once you pick the items up AND you can make music by tapping them together!

Crunchy cereal is great fun for moving vehicles around and creating sounds, this extra cause and effect is very engaging!
