Our Events and Celebrations

Our Events and Celebrations

Our events and celebrations calendar is jam packed with a vast variety of events from celebrations that promote our local heritage, to commemorative events and so much more!

Our Christmas Family Event – Jingle and Mingle

Our Easter Family Event – Bunny Bonanza or Easter Eggstravaganza!

Each year we host an Easter Event for our families to join us at nursery for a range of Easter themed craft activities and to explore the rooms together. We often host a ‘lucky squares’ competition or a raffle to fundraise for the nursery.

Our End of Year Family Event – Summer Garden Party

Spooky Snack Competition and Dress Up Day – Halloween Celebration for Children

Halloween often falls on a nursery day so we make a big effort to celebrate with the children and give families another opportunity to use those halloween costumes! Join us for halloween dress up and enter our Spooky Snack Competition! We then enjoy the snacks together and have a good dance to some fun halloween music!

World Book Day

We adore books. World Book Day is a huge event in our calendar! We run competitions for home made dress up costumes! A rainbow ‘reading’ challenge to encourage families to explore a wide range of books at home. And lots more!!

Our Fundraising

Over the years we have raised thousands of pounds for charities that mean something to our families. In December 2020 we almost raised £2000 for The Infantile Spasms Trust to support a family whose child was diagnosed with this. We have raised hundreds of pounds for Red Nose Day events to support Comic Relief, Christmas Jumper Days to support Save The Children and a dress up red day to support Cornwall Air Ambulance. In 2024 we raised over £900 for Children in Need with our sponsored walk, and we hope to smash this target in 2025!

Commemorative Events: Remembrance Day and VE Day

Each year we recognise these important events and support the children to understand their significance. We have hosted tea parties with the residents in Frances Bolitho Care Home to further the children’s understanding of the importance of these commemorative celebrations. We also take children to visit memorials on remembrance day too.

Special Celebrations: Mother’s Day and Father’s Day

In 2026 we have plans to increase our celebrations for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day by welcoming family members for activities with their children in our woodland duck garden such as den building and seed planting! As well as making cards to share with important members of our family on these special occasions.

Celebrating our Local Heritage – St Piran’s Day and Golowan Festival

We are proud of our local heritage and we explore this through stories, songs, our Cornish language, food and so much more. We are also proud to involve children in our local celebrations for St Piran’s Day and Golowan Festival. For St Piran’s Day the children at nursery make pasties and create St Piran’s Flags, our eldest children go for a walk through Penzance to watch the local primary schools in the St Piran’s Day parade, ending at Morrab gardens where we listen to the presentation and join in with singing Old Trelawny. For Golowan Festival we make a range of crafts during the week that the children can take with them if they go into Penzance on the Saturday to enjoy Mazey Day which is the culmination of the Golowan Festival Week.

National Awareness Day’s and Celebrations

We include a wide range of national awareness days and celebrations within our events calendar. These are days such as:

National Poetry Day – where we share families favourite poems, read poems with the care home residents and write our own joint nursery poem about ‘our favourite things’.

Oral Hygiene Day – on this day we share a wealth of information for families around keeping your child healthy and we welcome Maria, our local dentist to visit the children.

Shrove Tuesday – we make pancakes together on Shrove Tuesday!

Diwali Festival of Lights – we explore the story of Diwali and make Diwa lamps out of clay with the children.

Safer Internet Day – we share a range of information for families to keep children safe if they have access to the internet.

Safer Sleep Week – we share a range of information from The Lullaby Trust on how to ensure your child is having the safest sleep possible for their naps and nighttime sleep.

Accident Safety Week and Road Safety Week etc etc.

Our Nursery Graduation

Every Summer we celebrate all the wonderful children in our Pre School cohort who will be leaving us to go to school. Our celebration event holds a few surprises for families! In 2035 and 2026 our celebration will be hosted on St Michael’s Mount!

Our Ducks Birthday!

In 2025 we celebrated our 3 ducks first birthday with a garden party! What will we plan for their second birthday in March 2026?!

Our Family Workshops

We host an annual workshop for families when their children start Pre School. This workshop introduces families to their pre school year ahead and all the exciting plans we have. We also talk about how to apply for school places, what the application process entails, how to tour local schools and so much more. Throughout 2025/2026 we are trialling a range of other family workshops on topics of interest such as supporting communication and behaviour. We also give our Setting Health Visitor Sam, a warm welcome once per term to host a drop in health visitor session in our community room for families to attend.
