We offer quality learning experiences for children.
We are very proud of Bolitho Nursery, our ethos is “to provide a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment that enables children to thrive as they learn through their play.”
Our staff love their work and present a great mix of personalities; fun, gentle, patient, enthusiastic, creative and very caring.
We have three rooms within the Nursery; our Baby Room, Toddler Room and Pre School. These rooms are specifically designed and resourced for the children’s age ranges and stages of development.
We support transition between these rooms when children are developmentally ready and your child will have settling sessions supported by a familiar adult whilst they explore their new room. We discuss this process with our families to ensure smooth, happy and confident transitions.
Our children also have access to a Studio room to let their creativity run wild and also a Small Group Room for focused activity time with their key person. Both rooms have been set up with a wide range of resources that are easily accesbile to provide a wealth of experiences and opportunties for children.
Our Baby Room offers a calm, homely, fun and loving environment in which your little one can grow and thrive. Our team of dedicated staff will continue to follow home routines within the nursery, providing a consistency of care that ensures your child feels happy and secure.
The baby room has been set up with cosy areas for the children to rest and sleep throughout the day. The children benefit from low level solid wooden table and chairs, and a low level mirrored ballet bar to encourage crawling babies to pull themselves up. We love listening to stories and nursery rhymes, sensory exploration with sand, water, foam, paint, gloop and lots more squidgy activities. We promote discovery through our treasure baskets and exploring sensory bottles. We love to go on walks around the nursery and use our 4 seater buggy and 2 seater buggies to enable us to go for walks to Penlee Park, Morrab Gardens, Penzance Library and Penzance Prom!
Our Toddler Room is set up in a way that aims for children’s development to take place through their natural curiosity. Our toddlers also spend a huge amount of time exploring our Pirate Ship garden, whatever the weather! They are keen gardeners and enjoy looking after their plants and minibeasts too!
We work closely with our local health visiting team and we will complete a 2 yr old check for your child to coincide with the integrated health review. This will be undertaken between their second and third birthday and will be shared with you, providing the opportunity for you to contribute to it.
As your child approaches three, your child’s key person will provide opportunities for short visits into the Preschool room in order to create a smooth transition to the room.
In the Toddler Room, there are lots of opportunities for discovery and adventure through stories, role play, musi and movement, construction, gardening and lots more!
Joining Preschool is an exciting moment in a child’s learning, preparing them for the journey onto school. Our Preschool room is set up with a role play area to enhance opportunities for the wealth of imaginative play that this age engage in.
Preschool has a covered free flow area that allows the children to access the outdoor area in all weathers and leads out to their free flow courtyard area. They have a space for trikes to be ridden and circle games and group games to be played, obstacle courses, sand and water play.
Our studio room presents a calm and tranquil space that enables children to relax and let their creative minds evolve. We have a large range of resources, media and materials for children to choose from such as:
Clay, Paints, Paint dabbers, Collage materials, Charcoal, Crayons & pencils, Tissue paper, Coloured cellophane, Ink rollers, Chalk, Pom Poms, Sequins, Glue, Glitter… and lots more!
There is also an Overhead Projector set up that the children can turn onto project light on to a whiteboard on the wall. They can then explore creating shadows and images with a range of objects. This activity is further enhanced by the ability for children to then use wipeable pens to draw on the whiteboard to add to their projected image.
Children come to this space in small groups to let their creativity flow following adult led activities or child led exploration.
We have a small group room that is adjacent to our pre school area. This space has been filled with resources for small group activities that can be adult led or child initiated.
Story Baskets: There is a wealth of story baskets with added items such as props, puppets and soft toys that the children can use as they listen to, or retell, the stories.
Music and Movement: There is cd player that can be used for the whole group or with headphone for 2 or 3 children to listen to music and movement cds or story cds.

The courtyard is set up with a summer house, obstacle courses, water play, sand play and is a great space for group games and exploration.
All the children also benefit from access to the old Bolitho School playing field for welly walks, football and a range of activities that promote gross motor development. Children can explore further by following a trail to the Secret Garden where Great Scott Adventures run their Twiglets Outdoor Learning sessions with a fire circle and mud kitchen!
We are very fortunate to have a large room upstairs that has created a flexible space to hire for community use.
The room lends itself to facilitate large group training sessions as well as more active groups for children and families such as ballet sessions.
