Look at these amazing clay faces! The children were thoroughly engaged exploring the texture and properties of the clay, looking at how it can ‘hold’ ‘grab’ ‘stick’ items. The children collected a range of natural materials to use to create facial features. They were looking at eachothers faces to identify different features to include such as eyebrows, ears, noses, etc. Whilst doing so the children were spotting differences between eachother such as different coloured eyes and different length hair, showing just how careful their observations were. Some of the children were labelling the expressions and emotions they could link to different faces such as ‘surprised eyebrows’ ‘happy smile’ ‘sad face’. The children were also exploring all of the natural items they were collecting off the ground, talking about what plants or trees they originally came from.
